Before purchasing any goods you should ensure that you know exactly what you are getting, and exactly how
much you will be paying for it. It is no good realising that your shiny new Testarossa has been in a major
accident and does not have a service history, after you have paid for it and it has been delivered.
A car is probably the second most valuable thing that you will buy in your lifetime. You should verify the
background of any car before purchasing it. When looking at the car you can check the service history (we do
not advise buying a Ferrari or any other prestige car without FSH as this can seriously affect the
value of the car), but it is also worthwhile contacting an agency before viewing the car to check its past.
In the UK the AA will carry out a car data check, giving you the car's history for £31 (Call 0800 234
999), as will the HPI check for £28.50 (Call 01722 422 422). This will detail any accidents, or the
theft of the vehicle. It also allows the car's chassis and VIN number to be checked against the
registration number. You should also be given the last known mileage of the car, helping you to check
that it has not been clocked (again, the mileage on a prestige car can seriously affect its price). You
can also get a full car inspection from the AA for £89 (Call 0800 783 4610). This will assess the
car's condition and includes a full written report on the engineer's findings. These checks are definitely
worthwhile, as they could save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Similar services are also
available in other countries - check automotive magazines for details.
We also recommend purchasing the Illustrated Ferrari Buyer's Guide by Dean Batchelor. This book
covers all aspects of buying a Ferrari. You can order it through
amazon.com or
amazon.co.uk.
When purchasing car numberplates you should remember the additional costs on top of buying the numberplate.
The DVLA will expect you to pay an annual fee of £105 to register the plate to your car. Please see

for more details.
